Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the party access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Planners groups.

Fans can expect finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
